Mk2 Ford Fiesta 1.4S (1986-1989) Model Info
The Fiesta 1.4S (the 'S' stands for Sport by the way) was a mid-range sports model fitted with a lean-burn 1400 CVH engine as also fitted to the L and Ghia models, designed to appeal to those looking for a sporty option without the XR2 price tag, the car sold well although few examples remain in comparision to its bigger brother. Whether the low numbers are as a result of more frequent crashes coupled with lower build runs, or if it was more susceptible to rust in some way we cant be sure. The 1986-7 Mk2 Fiestas in particular were rumoured to have been commonly sourced from a poorer grade of steel due to political reasons at the time.
The S came equipped with a range of 'S-Pack' extras that were originally intended as options for the 1.4L model, they included a sunroof, front driving lamps, a sports steering wheel and distinctive white wheel trims. The model also featured high spec plastic bumpers and plastic side mouldings with a red insert as well as a black rear window surround and 1.4S sticker.
The S was a bit of an unusual car, mixing trim levels such as using low spec seats and carpets from a popular plus, with higher spec items such as the dashboard seen on the L, Ghia and XR2, and full height door cards. It had no centre console as standard, and a lack of internal adjuster on the passenger mirror was a notable omission. Despite the 1.4S' obvious sporty appeal, it actually sat below the 1.4L in terms of luxury.

Images of a very clean 1987 1.4S in Black. The interior on this model was slightly unusual with the coupling of high spec dash, yet a lack of centre console. This car has been retrofitted with a later Ford roof light, repurposed as boot interior light, pretty much the only detail out of place.
