Stuart says: This Mk2 1.1L appeared on Ebay in March 2004 and was advertised as a genuine Rugby Autocar conversion. The car had been in the sellers family from new, they even had the original sales brochure for it. In one of the photos, the large sill beam is visible inboard of the inner sill. This car has an identical conversion to car C457 XDU. It uses the original doors and B posts and the rear side windows are made of thick permenantly fixed perspex. A rollover bar connects the B posts and a T-bar section connects the rollover to the front screen top above the interior light. My car and this one make up 2 of the 3 cars reputed to have been built, but now I've said that there will be loads of the coming out of the woodwork. But that wouldn't be a bad thing anyway. I have to say, having experienced both this and the fly conversion this one feels much more solid. The nature of this conversion though doesn't allow the completely open effect the Fly allows along the flanks. Update: Feb 2005. I contacted the person selling the car on Ebay. He bought the car from the 1st owners and had since sold it to a lady living in Scotland. I have now managed to contact the current owner requesting a copy of the original sales brochures for the car.
